ManWallet – User Guide

Last updated: April 2026 (read-only mode after trial, local auto-backup)

ManWallet helps you manage your vehicles, home-related documents, loyalty cards, and monthly expenses in one place. This guide explains how to use each part of the app.

Getting started

When you open the app, you'll see five tabs at the bottom:

Helpful hints: The app shows tips for common gestures (swipe left to delete, long press to edit) when relevant. These appear automatically to help you learn the app.

Garage

Adding a vehicle

  1. Open the Garage tab.
  2. Tap the + button (top right). (Available during the free trial or with Premium.)
  3. Enter Make (e.g. VW, BMW) and Model (e.g. Golf, X5).
  4. VIN is optional: you can enter 17 characters manually or tap the scan icon (next to the VIN field) to take or choose a photo of the VIN (e.g. on the car or in a document); the app will recognize the text and fill the field.
  5. Tap Save.

If this is your first vehicle, it is selected automatically. Otherwise you can change the active vehicle from the selector at the top.

Choosing the active vehicle

At the top of the Garage tab, tap the row that shows the current car name. A list of all vehicles appears. Tap the one you want to use; the list closes and that vehicle becomes active.

Service Status

The Service Status card at the top shows:
- If you've set a service interval: how many km and days remain until the next service
- If no interval is set: km driven since the last service entry
- Visual indicator that changes color (green → orange → red) as service approaches

Vehicle details and documents

  1. In the Garage tab, under Vehicle Management, tap Vehicle Details.
  2. You can edit Make, Model, and VIN. Use the scan icon next to the VIN field to fill it from a photo.

Service Interval

In Vehicle Details, you can set a Service Interval:
- Distance interval (e.g. every 15,000 km)
- Time interval (e.g. every 12 months)

Once set, the app tracks when your next service is due and shows remaining km/days in the Service Status card. When you add a new service, you can reset the counter.

Monitored Items & Documents

Add reminders for MOT, Insurance, Vignette, or any custom document:
- Set the expiry date with the date picker
- Tap the calendar icon to add a reminder to your iPhone Calendar
- Attach photos (camera or photo library)

Use Quick Templates for common documents (MOT, Insurance, Vignette).

When you leave this screen, the app schedules expiration reminders based on your Settings → Notifications.

To remove a vehicle and all its data, scroll down and tap Delete Vehicle.

Service history

  1. Under Vehicle Management, tap Service History.
  2. Tap + to add a new service. (Available during the free trial or with Premium.)
  3. Enter what was done (e.g. "Oil change"), Parts / summary, Date, and Mileage.
  4. If you've set a service interval, toggle Reset service counter to reset the interval tracking.
  5. You can attach Invoice / Receipt photos.
  6. Tap Save.

Validation: The app checks that mileage values are consistent with dates. You cannot enter a lower mileage for a later date if earlier services have higher mileage.

Fuel and consumption

  1. Under Vehicle Management, tap Fuel & Consumption Stats.
  2. You'll see Average consumption (e.g. L/100 km or MPG) and a Fuel consumption trend chart.
  3. The list below shows all fill-ups; tap one to edit or delete.
  4. Tap + to add a new fill-up: Refuel Date, Odometer, Quantity, and optionally Price per liter. (Available during the free trial or with Premium.)

The app validates that odometer values are consistent with dates.

Insights (Garage)

The Insights section analyzes your vehicle data and provides personalized tips:
- Fuel consumption changes – alerts if consumption has increased (may indicate low tire pressure)
- Fuel price trends – notifies when prices are up or down compared to your average
- Service reminders – warns when service is due soon or overdue

Tap the Insights disclosure to expand and see current insights. The app needs at least 3 fill-ups to generate meaningful analysis.

Deadlines (Documents)

If you've set expiry dates for documents in Vehicle Details, they appear in the Deadlines section. Expired dates are shown in red.

Home (Properties)

Adding a property

  1. Open the Home tab.
  2. Tap +. (Available during the free trial or with Premium.)
  3. Enter Property name, Address, City, and Heating system.
  4. Optionally add Useful contacts (name and phone) and Monitored items & documents (reminders with names and expiry dates). You can use the quick templates (e.g. Home Insurance, Heating check).
  5. Tap Save.

Editing a property

Tap a property in the list. You can:

- Expense statistics link – detailed totals and averages
- Insights – personalized analysis including:

The app needs at least 5 expenses over 3 months to generate meaningful insights.

Backup

The Backup section is expandable — tap Backup to reveal all export/import options.

JSON (full backup — all data):
- Export (JSON): creates a full backup file with all vehicles, properties, cards, and expenses (available during trial and after Premium purchase)
- Import (JSON): replaces all existing data with the imported backup file (after one-time Premium purchase only)

CSV (expenses only):
- Export expenses (CSV): exports all your expenses as a CSV spreadsheet compatible with Excel or Numbers (available during trial and after Premium purchase)
- Import expenses (CSV): imports expenses from a ManWallet-format CSV file — adds to existing data without deleting anything (after one-time Premium purchase only)
- Import from other app (CSV): imports expenses from a CSV exported by another finance app (e.g. Wallet by BudgetBakers); lets you map columns and categories in a 3-step wizard (after one-time Premium purchase only)

CSV export/import includes only expenses (not vehicles, properties, or cards).

Auto-backup (optional safety net)

Below the Backup section, the Auto-backup toggle keeps a small rolling set of up to 3 local JSON backups of all your data inside the app's own storage on your device.
