ManWallet – User Guide
Last updated: April 2026 (read-only mode after trial, local auto-backup)
ManWallet helps you manage your vehicles, home-related documents, loyalty cards, and monthly expenses in one place. This guide explains how to use each part of the app.
Getting started
When you open the app, you'll see five tabs at the bottom:
- Garage – vehicles, service history, fuel, service intervals, insights, and document deadlines
- Home (Properties) – properties, contacts, and reminders
- Wallet – loyalty and store cards
- Expenses – monthly expense tracking with income, recurring expenses, filters, insights, and statistics
- Settings – appearance, units, language, notifications, backup, and premium
Helpful hints: The app shows tips for common gestures (swipe left to delete, long press to edit) when relevant. These appear automatically to help you learn the app.
Garage
Adding a vehicle
- Open the Garage tab.
- Tap the + button (top right). (Available during the free trial or with Premium.)
- Enter Make (e.g. VW, BMW) and Model (e.g. Golf, X5).
- VIN is optional: you can enter 17 characters manually or tap the scan icon (next to the VIN field) to take or choose a photo of the VIN (e.g. on the car or in a document); the app will recognize the text and fill the field.
- Tap Save.
If this is your first vehicle, it is selected automatically. Otherwise you can change the active vehicle from the selector at the top.
Choosing the active vehicle
At the top of the Garage tab, tap the row that shows the current car name. A list of all vehicles appears. Tap the one you want to use; the list closes and that vehicle becomes active.
Service Status
The Service Status card at the top shows:
- If you've set a service interval: how many km and days remain until the next service
- If no interval is set: km driven since the last service entry
- Visual indicator that changes color (green → orange → red) as service approaches
Vehicle details and documents
- In the Garage tab, under Vehicle Management, tap Vehicle Details.
- You can edit Make, Model, and VIN. Use the scan icon next to the VIN field to fill it from a photo.
Service Interval
In Vehicle Details, you can set a Service Interval:
- Distance interval (e.g. every 15,000 km)
- Time interval (e.g. every 12 months)
Once set, the app tracks when your next service is due and shows remaining km/days in the Service Status card. When you add a new service, you can reset the counter.
Monitored Items & Documents
Add reminders for MOT, Insurance, Vignette, or any custom document:
- Set the expiry date with the date picker
- Tap the calendar icon to add a reminder to your iPhone Calendar
- Attach photos (camera or photo library)
Use Quick Templates for common documents (MOT, Insurance, Vignette).
When you leave this screen, the app schedules expiration reminders based on your Settings → Notifications.
To remove a vehicle and all its data, scroll down and tap Delete Vehicle.
Service history
- Under Vehicle Management, tap Service History.
- Tap + to add a new service. (Available during the free trial or with Premium.)
- Enter what was done (e.g. "Oil change"), Parts / summary, Date, and Mileage.
- If you've set a service interval, toggle Reset service counter to reset the interval tracking.
- You can attach Invoice / Receipt photos.
- Tap Save.
Validation: The app checks that mileage values are consistent with dates. You cannot enter a lower mileage for a later date if earlier services have higher mileage.
Fuel and consumption
- Under Vehicle Management, tap Fuel & Consumption Stats.
- You'll see Average consumption (e.g. L/100 km or MPG) and a Fuel consumption trend chart.
- The list below shows all fill-ups; tap one to edit or delete.
- Tap + to add a new fill-up: Refuel Date, Odometer, Quantity, and optionally Price per liter. (Available during the free trial or with Premium.)
The app validates that odometer values are consistent with dates.
Insights (Garage)
The Insights section analyzes your vehicle data and provides personalized tips:
- Fuel consumption changes – alerts if consumption has increased (may indicate low tire pressure)
- Fuel price trends – notifies when prices are up or down compared to your average
- Service reminders – warns when service is due soon or overdue
Tap the Insights disclosure to expand and see current insights. The app needs at least 3 fill-ups to generate meaningful analysis.
Deadlines (Documents)
If you've set expiry dates for documents in Vehicle Details, they appear in the Deadlines section. Expired dates are shown in red.
Home (Properties)
Adding a property
- Open the Home tab.
- Tap +. (Available during the free trial or with Premium.)
- Enter Property name, Address, City, and Heating system.
- Optionally add Useful contacts (name and phone) and Monitored items & documents (reminders with names and expiry dates). You can use the quick templates (e.g. Home Insurance, Heating check).
- Tap Save.
Editing a property
Tap a property in the list. You can:
- Change General details
- Add or remove contacts (swipe to delete, with confirmation)
- Add reminders (custom name + expiry date) or use Quick templates
- For each reminder, edit the name, date, add to calendar, and attach photos
- Tap Delete Property at the bottom to remove the property and all its data

The Expenses tab lets you track general spending that is not tied to a specific vehicle or property.

Filtering expenses

Tap Spending Analysis to expand:
- Expense statistics link – detailed totals and averages
- Insights – personalized analysis including:
- Spending comparison vs. your 3-month average
- Categories taking unusually high percentage of spending
- Unusual individual expenses (significantly above your average)
The app needs at least 5 expenses over 3 months to generate meaningful insights.

Tap the Expense statistics link to see:
- This month: total amount and number of entries
- This month by category: breakdown per category

- Enter Store name, optional Bar code (you can scan it), and choose Card colour.
- Tap Save.
Editing or deleting a card

- Swipe left to delete
Monthly Review
At the beginning of each month, the app shows a Monthly Review summarizing the previous month:
- Garage: services performed, km driven, fuel consumed, average consumption
- Expenses: total spending, breakdown by category
- Comparisons: how values changed compared to the month before
Tap Got it! to dismiss. The review appears once per month.

Backup
The Backup section is expandable — tap Backup to reveal all export/import options.
JSON (full backup — all data):
- Export (JSON): creates a full backup file with all vehicles, properties, cards, and expenses (available during trial and after Premium purchase)
- Import (JSON): replaces all existing data with the imported backup file (after one-time Premium purchase only)
CSV (expenses only):
- Export expenses (CSV): exports all your expenses as a CSV spreadsheet compatible with Excel or Numbers (available during trial and after Premium purchase)
- Import expenses (CSV): imports expenses from a ManWallet-format CSV file — adds to existing data without deleting anything (after one-time Premium purchase only)
- Import from other app (CSV): imports expenses from a CSV exported by another finance app (e.g. Wallet by BudgetBakers); lets you map columns and categories in a 3-step wizard (after one-time Premium purchase only)
CSV export/import includes only expenses (not vehicles, properties, or cards).
Auto-backup (optional safety net)
Below the Backup section, the Auto-backup toggle keeps a small rolling set of up to 3 local JSON backups of all your data inside the app's own storage on your device.
- A new auto-backup is written at most once every 7 days, on the first foreground of the day that meets the interval.
- Older auto-backups are pruned automatically so only the 3 most recent files are kept.
- Auto-backup files never leave your device — they are not uploaded, not synced to iCloud by the app, and not shared unless you export/import yourself.
- Auto-backup keeps running even after the trial ends (view-only mode), so data you entered during the trial still gets backed up. Restoring from an auto-backup still requires the one-time Premium purchase.
- You can enable or disable the toggle at any time; disabling it does not delete existing auto-backup files.
Premium
The app offers a time‑limited free trial with full access to adding and editing data on the device:
- During trial: add, edit and delete vehicles, properties, expenses, cards, documents etc. JSON and CSV export are available. JSON and CSV import unlock only after the Premium purchase.
- After trial (view-only mode):
- All five tabs stay open and every piece of data you already entered remains visible, searchable and filterable.
- Statistics, insights and Monthly Review continue to work.
- JSON / CSV export and local auto-backup continue to work, so you never lose access to your data.
- Adding, editing and deleting is disabled throughout the app. Edit screens display a "Read-only mode — trial ended" banner at the top.
- At the top of each main tab, an Unlock Premium banner appears; tap it to open the paywall whenever you want to re-enable writing. (You can also open the paywall from Settings → Premium.)
- Unlock Premium: one-time non-consumable purchase through Apple's In‑App Purchase system (handled entirely by Apple on your device).
- Purchase status is checked using StoreKit (Apple's entitlements for your Apple ID). After a purchase or reinstall, the app may briefly show that it is checking purchase status while it syncs with the App Store — this is normal. If you happen to be offline at that moment, the app will keep your existing Premium state intact and re-check automatically the next time it can reach the App Store.
- Restore purchase: use this if you already bought Premium on the same Apple ID (e.g. new phone or reinstall). You must be signed in to the App Store / Media & Purchases as usual for your device.
- Testing: In development, Apple may ask you to sign in with a Sandbox test account; in the App Store build, purchases use your normal Apple ID flow.
